SkinPen Microneedling

What is Skinpen?

SkinPen is a medical grade, non-surgical, micro-needling device. It stimulates collagen production in your skin - reducing acne scarring, tightening skin, and reducing the size of pores.

How does it work?

SkinPen uses tiny needles to penetrate the skin, creating thousands of micro-perforations on the skin.

As a result, the skin shifts its natural repair mechanism and starts producing collagen and elastin to repair these micro-perforations. This self-repairing property of the skin is a 100% natural form of skin renewal from the inside out.

SkinPen’s advantage over other treatments is that it not only activates cell regeneration, but it also enhances the absorption of topicals into the skin.

What skin conditions can SkinPen treat?

  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Scars
  • Lax skin
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Skin tightening
  • Promotes cellular renewal
  • Minimises fine lines and wrinkles

Can anyone have this treatment?

Although the treatment is safe for all skin types there are certain medical conditions that exclude you from having a treatment.

These include active acne, rosacea, active skin infections, raised keloid scars, actinic keratosis and other non-melanoma & melanoma skin cancers, eczema, psoriasis, sebaceous hyperplasia and open wounds.

Your practitioner will discuss with you any health concerns you may have before you commence the treatment.

FAQs

  • What are the side effects? What does my skin look like after treatment?

Immediately after microneedling, you may see some redness. Your skin may feel like it’s sunburned, causing minor discomfort.

You will be given a post treatment balm to apply to your skin.

  • Does it hurt? What will I expect it to feel like?

Before the treatment a topical anestheic cream is applied to the treatment area. The anestheic cream numbs the skin and makes the treatment almost painless.

You may experience some sensitivity, particularly around the eyes. People who have experience the treatment say it feels like their skin is being rubbed with fine sandpaper, others describe the feeling of an electronic toothbrush being moved across your skin.

  • How long after the treatment do I have to wait to wear make-up?

You can return to your regular makeup routine after 2-3 days, at which point your skin will appear almost normal.

You must however continue to use a high factor sunscreen and any topical products specifically recommended by your practitioner.
